Matt has worked to improve communities and create jobs in both for profit and non-profit sectors for more than 25 years. Before co-founding BetterWorld Telecom in 2003, Matt served in a series of leadership roles in the telecommunications and power industries, including the AES Corporation and NETtel Communications. In addition to his duties as President at BetterWorld, Matt is also Project Co-director at ConnectSpace.vi, a new broadband career and co-working center in St. Croix, USVI. Matt is co-editor and author of the Nonprofit Guide to Going Green, published by Wiley & Sons and is a regular contributor to the Washington Post as a Small Business Panelist, as well as Sustainable Industries/Triple Pundit Media. He has either helped found or grow a number of non-profits over the past decade, including Lowcountry Local First (Charleston, SC), Sitar Center for Children and the Arts (D.C.), and the True Colors Theatre Company (Atlanta). Matt is a member of the Entrepreneurs’ Organization and SF-based Full Circle Fund. He serves on the national boards of the Business Alliance for Local Living Economies (BALLE) and the American Sustainable Business Council. Matt lectures/speaks nationally on sustainability and telecommunications, most recently at the Mile High Business Alliance Annual Conference, Funders’ Network Annual Conference, Progressive Opportunities, NetImpact Annual Conference, Sonoma State College, Evergreen State College, Green Telecom East, CTIA Green Telecom Summit, the FCC Broadband Workshop Series, Nokia Siemens Green Telecom Summit and as a CAIR at Bainbridge Graduate Institute. He holds a BA in Telecommunications from Indiana University and MBA from George Washington University.
